Chris Pengelly
A Cornish born landscape and portrait artist.
With the ambition of become an artist, Chris studied at the Plymouth collage of Art and Design from: 1965 to 1967, before deciding to follow another direction…However she never gave up her dream of becoming an artist…and despite taking a break from her Art and exploring other carrier choices away from her beloved Cornwall; Chris never forgot her roots..
The inspiration for her landscape paintings has always come from her years growing up in Cornwall, the romance and atmosphere she creates are both unique and compelling… Trees and open landscape have become her signature; a combination of memories of the Cornish landscape and reality of the flat open wolds of Lincolnshire where she decided to make her home…
Colour use often becomes an entirely emotional response to the subject while values can remain representational; Chris paints mostly from her own imagination and uses colours to create a distinctive mood, typically of romance and nostalgia which capture the light …The love she has for the countryside is portrayed beautifully in her work….
Chris also loves to paint watercolour studies of cats and dogs, she loves the detail; she captures the animals in a most beautiful evocative way with her professional use of Watercolour and oil techniques.
Chris’s unique Watercolour pet portraits,Oil and Watercolour landscapes sell world wide…
“The beauty of nature captured and frozen in time! “
( “After many years of painting landscape, I am now more than ever concentrating on atmosphere; the cloud cover and its effect on light and colour through both its translucent and opaque properties have become my focus.. Clouds are visible masses of water droplets suspended in the atmosphere, they reflect and refract, creating an ever changing perception of light which inspires my use of colour.
I love the challenge of catching the moment, just as a photographer that moment when a heavy cloud cover clears to reveal clear blue sky; that wonderful coolness of colour that complements the warmth.
I have always admired the works of Turner and will always find inspiration in his works, he was in my opinion the master of atmospheric effects …The beauty of nature captured and frozen in time! ”)
